In the video, the switches at ToR are blowing in the opposite direction of the airflow indicated by the blowing paper. They don't seem very well known/understood, so I wonder how most folks are dealing with the issue.Įdit: Since it's not clear. Some vendors make ducts designed to connect the switch intake directly to the cold aisle. Near the servers, the cold aisle is an intake, but near the switches it turns into a hot air exhaust. The switches don't receive a single molecule of air from the cold aisle. Instead, hot, high pressure server exhaust blows out through there into the cold aisle. In my experience, even though you can see the switch air intake from the cold aisle, that 17.75" x 1.75" opening does not actually serve as a cold air intake for the switch. Switch air intake is 12" or so from the hot/cold boundary at the front of the cabinet. Switch fans blow air toward the hot aisle (port side exhaust) Switches are aligned with the back/hot end of the cabinet (so you can reach them)
